Made in China

Your Name: Brendan O’Donohue

Where: Trim, County Meath, Ireland

Your Story: Made in China.

Putting Mya, my six year old to bed a couple of nights ago..and as usual, we lie together before she goes asleep and chat, sing, play top trumps or learn about stuff. This particular night she asked to learn some more words in Spanish or French, so we did..she learned to count to 29 in Spanish that night 🙂 Given her keen interest in languages and foreign cultures, I asked her where she’d most like to visit, to which she responded instantly, “China”. I was impressed, given it’s up there on my list of places I want to go, and have never been. Interested, I asked what it was that made her want to visit China above anywhere else. “Because they make everything there, Daddy! Look, everything in my room was made in China. They’re so good at making stuff!” She then proceeded to collect about 20 cuddly toys along with other girly bits and bobs from around her room and read the labels out loud to me. “Look Daddy, ‘Made in China’…’made in China’…’made in China’…” . I love kids! 🙂

They’d hang ya!

Your Story: They’d hang ya!

We were at the funeral of a parent of a friend of ours years ago and our son was only about 4 at the time. He was naturally a bit restless and bored as the mass went on and we tried our best to quietly answer his questions and explain that he had to be very quiet. Eventually he couldn’t take it anymore and in a very load and exasperated voice said …
“Ughhhhh, When is that man gonna get off the stage, he’s soooooooo boring!!” (referring to the priest on the altar)
Needless to say we were mortified but thankfully it just resulted in a little chuckle from the congregation 😛

Kids today are smarter than their years

Your Name: Mark, Ireland, Dublin,

When: Years ago

Your Story: Kids today are smarter than their years

My son always likes to have a story from a book before bed .
His favourite at the time was the 3 little pigs and one night I read him the story while he lay listening repeating the main points from each line …..get to the part where the pigs are in the brick house and the wolf is threatening to huff and puff and blow the house down …this does not work and the wolf says there is more than one way to get them pigs……I’ll go around the back (go round the back) and get the ladder (get the ladder ) climb on the roof (on the roof ) and go down the chimney .
But the pigs were smart too (smart pigs ) they lit the fire and when the wolf came down the chimney he was scalded !!!..My son nearly jumped out of his skin with the fright 🙂 …..
I travel with work and came back a week later and it was bedtime….Would you like a story , Yes …Which one …The 3 Pigs …ok .
Start the story and it goes the same ….the pigs all end up at the brick house .
I tell him the wolf threatens to huff and puff but its no good …….
There’s more than one way to get them pigs says the wolf…….Alex reaches out touches my arm and says………don’t get the ladder………..he was 2 and a half !!!

New Words : )

Your Story: New Words : )

I always love it when one of my kids come out with something hilarious without even knowing it! Over the years there have been so many of these and I have always promised myself that I would jot them down… sadly I rarely did and now I can hardly recall these little moments. This blog is going to be great for me 🙂
Anyway yesterday was one of these moments. My 11-year-old son Jack, like most kids is always listening and watching and often picks up words he hears and uses them in later conversations.. but not always in the right sentences! Yesterday he walked into the kitchen as I was tidying the worktop, putting away bits and pieces after dinner. He asked if he could make himself a little snack. I looked at him and said ” are you serious.. you have only just finished dinner”.. he just smiled sweetly and said “I know Mam, but I am just feeling a little bit feisty” !!! I cracked up laughing and after a few questions realised he meant “Peckish” hahahaa!
